I’m excited to introduce our newest creation: Alder Black Tea!
The leaves are hand-harvested and processed in small batches using traditional Chinese black tea-making techniques. The result is a surprisingly deep amber infusion, full-bodied and smooth, with delicate woodsy notes, a rose aroma (!), and a light resinous finish. Who could have imagined such a common shrub would be so floral and delightful?!
Speckled alder, a shrub of the birch family (Betulaceae), are among Canada’s most abundant native species, found along dirtroads, ditches, riverbanks, bogs, and marshes from coast to coast. As a pioneer species, alder quickly colonizes disturbed land after wildfires and clear-cutting.
